F.A.Q.

Q:    What is a Scuba Stik?

A:    Scuba Stik is a fishing pole designed specifically for use by anglers under the water. It consists of a telescoping rod, retractable rod handle, reel, line, and your choice of hook or lure.

Q:    Who would use the Scuba Stik?

A:    Anyone who may wish to angle for fish underwater. Those most likely to enjoy this sort of angling would be     snorkelers and scuba divers.

Q:    How does the Scuba Stik work?

A:    Click the answer to view our new instructional video to see how the Scuba Stik works.

Q:    Why can't I use an ordinary rod and reel underwater?

A:     There are many reasons that an ordinary rod and reel will not work under the water. Here are a few of the most important reasons.

1.) The line on the reel cannot be cast underwater. The Scuba Stik has a unique casting mechanism built into the rod and reel. It uses a hydraulic action to cast the line.

2.) Most rods have eyelets that line passes through, which allows the line to easily become snagged in brush, seaweed or even yourself or another diver. The Scuba Stik has the line pass from rod base to tip within the rod. Because of this there is no entanglement issue.

3.) In order to compel fish to bite you must present your bait in a natural manner.  With an ordinary fishing rod the only way to do this is by wiggling and jerking the pole tip up, while trying to overcome water's resistance. This is all happening while suspending your lure from the wiggling rod tip directly above your fish, thus spooking your fish. Scuba Stik's action takes place back by the rod base. By slowly extending and contracted the rod base, the pole tip remains still in the water, and the bait moves up and down, thus permitting a more natural bait movement and presentation.

4.) If a fish strikes, a normal rod and reel must be jerked vertically or horizontally to set the hook, and with the resistance of water, and flexibility of the rod, it will be difficult if not impossible to properly set hook and catch your fish. And if you miss your fish, with all of that body and rod movement, your fish has spooked and vanished into the deep blue. Furthermore, you cannot easily recast once your line is retrieved. With S.S., a simple extension of the rod base quickly and efficiently sets the hook! And if you miss your fish, slowly recast by retracting the pole! It's that simple.

5.) If you are lucky enough to catch a fish with an ordinary rod and reel, the rod and reel is not made to retrieve and securely lock a fighting fish to the pole tip. S.S.'s tip is made to retrieve a fighting fish from any direction without risk of line fouling or abrasion and locking fish to pole tip by extending rod and locking it in place.!

Q:    Can I use the Scuba Stik in salt or fresh water?

A:    The Scuba Stik is manufactured to be used in salt or fresh water, as it is manufactured from water and weather resistant plastic (UHMW, acetal) fiberglass, and stainless steel.

Q:    Where can I fish with the Scuba Stik?

A:    As this is no different than conventional pole and line fishing whereby the fish is compelled to bite on your hook, most if not all fishing regulations permit this unique style of fishing.

If in doubt, contact your local fish and game authority or contact us for more information. Don't forget your fishing license and waterproof license holder! and to follow all scuba diving rules and regulations!

Q:    What knots work best for tying lures onto Scuba Stik leaders?

A:    There are many knots that are appropriate for tying leader material to hooks and lures. I would suggest visiting the following website for an in depth description of the most appropriate knots for your application: www.fintalk.com/fishing-knots.
